BERLIN (Sputnik) – Germany's top diplomat, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, is set to visit Paris on Thursday, where he will address the Syrian crisis with his French and British counterparts, as well as the European Union's foreign policy chief.
"Tomorrow, Minister Steinmeier will travel to Paris, where together with the French and British foreign ministers as well as [Federica] Mogherini, he will discuss political ways out of the Syrian crisis," German Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Sawsan Chebli told reporters on Wednesday.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel reiterated earlier that any political dialogue on Syria must include Russia.
The Syrian civil war is entering its fifth year and has claimed the lives of up to 330,000 people, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights’ August 2015 estimates.
Syrian government forces are fighting rebel factions and extremist militant groups, including Islamic State and the al-Qaeda affiliated Nusra Front.
