The desire of the eastern Ukrainian self-proclaimed people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk to hold local elections does not contradict or breach the Minsk agreements because there is no mention of dates in the reconciliation agreement, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday.

International Observers Agree to Attend Local Elections in Donetsk
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Ukrainian government does not recognize the Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics as entities independent from Kiev, stating that it will not formally recognize local election results.

Ukraine is expected to hold local elections on October 25, while Donetsk and Lugansk plan to hold their own local elections on October 18 and November 1, respectively.

“The Minsk agreements presupposes the agreement of [the election] model between Kiev, Donetsk, and Lugansk, but there are no dates specified,” Lavrov told journalists.
