MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The 4th International Parliamentary Forum will begin October 1 in Moscow. The event, organized by the lower house of the State Duma and the Russian Foreign Ministry will be attended by top Russian diplomat Sergei Lavrov, as well as parliamentary leaders from Russia and abroad.
"The global migration situation will be the focus of a separate discussion. The debate will be about the surge of migration flows as a result of military conflicts, challenges that countries face and parliamentary cooperation on migration policies," the State Duma said.
Over 500,000 migrants and refugees have arrived in the European Union since the beginning of 2015, according to the European Commission.
The International Organization for Migration estimates that almost 40 percent of the refugees arriving in Europe come from war-torn Syria.
