ST. PETERSBURG (Sputnik) — Last week, Poroshenko signed off on the most recent version of the Ukrainian sanction list, which includes over 40 journalists and bloggers from Russia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Poland, Israel and Latvia.
Then, the sanctions against six European reporters were lifted, while others still remain in the list.
"Usually, our partners are very willing to criticize other countries' leadership at the slightest suspicion of infringement upon the freedom of speech and media. It is very strange that they have not, unfortunately, voiced any criticism against Kiev in the context of the recent decision by [Ukrainian] authorities to adopt a sanctions list that includes dozens of Russian, foreign journalists," ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told reporters.
All of the journalists who have been affected by the sanctions, which stipulates year-long entry bans and assets freezes, have been critical of the Ukrainian authorities in their coverage of events in Ukraine.
