BELGRADE (Sputnik) — The Serbian government has lifted its ban on imports of Croatian goods and allowed access to its territory to Croatian cargo transport, Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said Friday.
"Not for a single second we wanted to take any retaliatory measures, only to defend our country and our national interests," Vucic said after taking the decision at a parliamentary session broadcast at the Serbian national television.
On Thursday, Belgrade closed its border with Croatia, suspending access to its territory to Croatian trucks, trains and ships in response to similar action taken by Zagreb, targeting Serbian freight traffic, on Monday.
The so-called customs war between Croatia and Serbia came amid a massive refugee influx in the European Union, as thousands of hundreds of asylum-seekers flee the conflict-torn countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
