WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Thursday, Poltorak met with US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter.
The two defense chiefs "agreed that we [Ukraine] should focus our attention on the United States providing [Kiev] with the chance to defend our country," Poltorak announced.
"Our future largely depends on whether we will be able to strengthen our ties with the military complex in the United States," Polotorak stated.
Ukraine is pressing the United States to provide its armed services with anti-tank weapons, communications equipment and other high technology defensive hardware.
Washington has provided Kiev with military training and aid, but has refrained from providing offensive weapons to the country.
