Greece, Iraq Set to Promote Bilateral Strategic Cooperation

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias and his his Iraqi counterpart, Ibrahim Al-Jaafari discussed the latest international developments, emphasizing issues of bilateral cooperation and underscoring the need for the economic, technical, military and cultural cooperation between countries, according to the statement of the Greek Foreign Ministry.

ATHENS (Sputnik) — Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias held talks with his Iraqi counterpart, Ibrahim Al-Jaafari, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York City on Sunday, focusing on the need for boosting economic, technical, military and cultural cooperation, the Greek Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"Kotzias and Al-Jaafari discussed the latest international and regional developments, emphasizing issues of bilateral cooperation and underscoring the need for the economic, technical, military and cultural cooperation between the two countries to be promoted even further," the statement read.

Washington 'Ruled' Athens in Talks With Creditors
The sides agreed that the visits of the political directors and the foreign ministry officials should be arranged soon in order to work out "a bilateral action and strategic cooperation plan" with the assistance of technical working groups, according to the ministry.

Earlier, it was reported that Kotzias, who accompanied Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras at the UN General Assembly, plans to hold a series of meetings with his counterparts, in particular the foreign ministers of the United States, Russia, Cyprus, Turkey, Egypt, Kosovo, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Argentina, Australia, Norway, as well as with a special adviser of the UN secretary-general on Cyprus and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation head.
