Lukashenko: Belarus to Remain ‘Donor’ of Regional, International Security

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to Lukashenko, Belarus is ready to share its experience in resolving various issues with other UN member-states.

"We especially do not like it when certain derogations from the norms of morality are imposed on us," Lukashenko said on Monday, adding, however, that Belarus "plans to build even and respectful relations with all countries" and "will still remain a donor of regional and international security."

Belarus has been acting as a mediator in the Ukraine conflict resolution. The country’s capital Minsk has hosted several rounds of Ukraine peace talks, both in the Normandy format (Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine) and in the Contact Group format, comprising representatives from Kiev, the self-proclaimed people's republics of Donetsk and Lugansk (DPR and LPR), Russia and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

In September 2014 a Contact Group meeting in the Belarusian capital Minsk led to the signing of a ceasefire agreement between Kiev, DPR and LPR. The ceasefire failed to hold, with both Donetsk and Lugansk independence supporters and Kiev forces blaming each other for violating the truce.

Another Ukraine peace deal was reached in February of this year, following talks between Normandy Four leaders in Minsk. The peace agreement was later signed by Contact Group representatives.
