Almost 20,000 foreign militants have been blacklisted by Turkey and are prohibited from entering the country, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Tuesday.

UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — Turkey is known to be used as a transit country by those attempting to join ISIL in Syria and Iraq, Turkey's neighboring states.

"Since 2011, we have put nearly 20,000 people from more than 100 countries on the list of 'banned individuals', which my government compiled regarding foreign militants," Davutoglu said at the UN summit on violent extremism and the fight against Islamic State.

Turkey is taking part in anti-IS airstrikes led by a US-led coalition attempting to stop ISIL advances.
