MOSCOW (Sputnik) – On Monday, an Italian aid worker was killed in the country’s capital Dhaka by three gunmen. The ISIL militants claimed responsibility for the incident, according to the SITE Intelligence Group.
"We have been looking into the authenticity of ISIL claims as it came through many websites," police spokesman Muntasirul Islam said, as quoted by the NewsNext portal.
According to the media outlet, the police are taking the claim seriously. This would be the first attack of the Islamic State in Bangladesh if it were confirmed.
The Islamic State militant group has taken over large parts of Syria and Iraq last year. The group also has many offshoots operating in countries all over the world.
