Putin Closely Monitoring Possible Terrorist Threat Against Russia From ISIL
BEIJING (Sputnik) On Monday, President Vladimir Putin called for the creation of a broad based anti-terrorist coalition, with the participation of Muslim countries, based on the principles laid out in the UN Charter, as well as the passage of a resolution to coordinate efforts to counteract the Islamic State (ISIL) jihadist group.

"China opposes all forms of terrorism. Counter-terrorism activities can be carried out in observance of the UN principles, and while respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of other countries," Hong Lei said, commenting on Putin’s suggestion to create a coalition.

Hong added that China is ready to work with the international community to strengthen coordination and contact related to tackling terrorism.

Islamic State seized large parts of Syria and Iraq last year. Several other extremist groups are active in the two countries.

A US-led international coalition has been bombing ISIL positions in Iraq and Syria since August 2014.

Russia has repeatedly criticized the US-led coalition for conducting airstrikes against ISIL positions in Syria without seeking the approval of the UN Security Council or Damascus.
