NATO Wars, Expansion Threaten International Peace - Cuban Foreign Minister

The Cuban foreign minister Bruno Rodriguez Parilla stated that differences between nations "should be settled in accordance with international law and peaceful means."

UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — The expansion of NATO and the alliance’s foreign military interventions pose a threat to peace, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parilla told the press on Tuesday.

"The actions of non-conventional wars launched by NATO members in northern Africa or even the idea of the expansion of NATO up until the borders of Russia will create [a] serious threat to international peace and security," Parilla said on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Cuba Rejects NATO Expansion Along Russian Borders, Sanctions Against Moscow
In recent years, NATO led a military overthrow of the Libyan government under the alleged authority of a UN resolution establishing a no-fly-zone over Libya.

Over the past year, the United States and NATO member states have launched unilaterally military actions against the Islamic State without seeking authorization from the UN Security Council, or the government of Syria.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed a broader international platform to combat terrorism through the UN and in accordance with international law.
