UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — The expansion of NATO and the alliance’s foreign military interventions pose a threat to peace, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parilla told the press on Tuesday.
"The actions of non-conventional wars launched by NATO members in northern Africa or even the idea of the expansion of NATO up until the borders of Russia will create [a] serious threat to international peace and security," Parilla said on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
Over the past year, the United States and NATO member states have launched unilaterally military actions against the Islamic State without seeking authorization from the UN Security Council, or the government of Syria.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed a broader international platform to combat terrorism through the UN and in accordance with international law.
