MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Moscow's assistance to Damascus is intended to assist in the fight against terrorism in the region, Syrian President Bashar Assad's political adviser said.
Moscow is currently providing military and technical assistance to Syria in its fight against the Islamic State (ISIL) extremist organization, urging other countries, including the United States, to join its efforts.
Shaaban added that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s address to the 70th United Nations General Assembly on Syria was logical, in light of his awareness of the pulse of what is happening in the region.
According to Assad’s adviser, airstrikes conducted by a US-led coalition against ISIL positions in Syria only increase bloodshed and expand terror threats from Syria to the region and the world.
