"It’s hard to believe it’s cheaper to commute 1,000 miles than live just around the corner. But the cost of living for students is crippling," Davey told the Mirror. "I’m thousands of pounds a year better off in Poland."
The young academic obviously did his research. After a stint travelling around Europe, he found Poland to be the cheapest place to live and worked out that using budget airlines to commute to London would cost around $3,179 per year – but living in London would cost him £333 a week, costing $17,320 a year.

The anthropology student has also saved money by booking up all trains and buses to and from the airport in advance.
"I leave home in Gdansk and fly to Luton at 6am… I’m sat in my first lecture by 10am… I have lectures Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and then fly back to Poland until I do it all again the next Wednesday."
And then for the two nights a week he’s in London, Davey sleeps on sofas or in cheap hostels.
"My parents think I’m mad."
Davey’s decision to commute from Poland to London not only highlights his economic tenacity and organizational skills – but the ongoing housing crisis in London forcing people on low incomes out of Britain’s capital.
