MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The increasing refugee flow into Europe is prompted by US military operations in Syria, Kosovo and Afghanistan, the Sputnik.Facts project revealed Thursday.
The largest refugee flows are from Syria (73,310), Kosovo (58,920) and Afghanistan (39,910) — countries where the United States and its allies have conducted various military operations, according to figures compiled by Eurostat.
Eurostat further calculates that Hungary, Sweden and Austria have accepted the largest number of refugees – 9,929, 5,052 and 3,328 per 1 million local residents, respectively. It is noteworthy that 72 percent of refugees are men and 28 percent are women. Almost half of all refugees (49 percent) are men aged 14-34, while women in this age bracket account for just 12 percent.
The data is part of a project of the Sputnik news agency, and publishes information on current political and social issues based on national and international statistics by the UN, the IMF, and other organizations, as well as forecasts by major research centers.
