STRASBOURG (Sputnik) – The mission will include eight PACE lawmakers, and will visit the island on October 23-25.
"I have just been appointed in the Council of Europe for a special mission to go to Kos," Doris Fiala said.
Fiala said the delegation was invited by the mayor of Kos "to realize on the spot, what is going on the island."
"I think this will give us a better idea, a more realistic idea when we go back to our countries to speak about this phenomenon, and I think all those Greek islands really deserve our help," Fiala said.
According to the European Commission, over 500,000 undocumented migrants have arrived in the bloc since the beginning of 2015.
Greece has been at the forefront of the migrant crisis in Europe. Tens of thousands of migrants and refugees have been arriving to Greek coasts in an attempt to travel further into prosperous Western EU counties.
