MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Shadid Gubashev, one of the accused in the murder case of prominent Russian opposition politician Boris Nemtsov, has not recanted his confession, his lawyer Magomed Khadisov said Friday.
"During the interrogation [on Thursday], he did not retract his confession. He left things as they are and took some time to think," Khadisov told RIA Novosti, dismissing recent media claims that all the suspects in the Nemtsov murder case had retracted their confessions.
On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin labeled the murder a disgraceful chapter in contemporary Russian history, expressing hope that those responsible would face justice.
Nemtsov, a prominent political opposition figure in Russia, was fatally shot in central Moscow in February.
A week after the killing, five persons were detained on suspicion of involvement in the murder. The investigation is ongoing.
