WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The C-130 Hercules is a four-engine turboprop aircraft used to transport cargo and personnel.
“The status of passengers and crew members is unknown. We are gathering further information,” the official said on Thursday evening.
According to US media reports, ten people, including five American service members, were in the turboprop-powered transport that crashed after takeoff.
The remaining five people on the aircraft were civilian contractors, according to NBC news. Two Afghan civilians were killed on the ground when the plane crashed.
No cause for the crash has yet been determined, and there were no reports of hostile activity in the area at the time, the media reports said.
