UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — Russia's airstrikes in Syria effectively complement Damascus' efforts to combat terrorism, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem said Friday.
"Terrorism cannot be overcome only from the air, and all previous attempts to overcome it have only led to its spread. Airstrikes are useless if they are not carried out in coordination with the Syrian army, the only power in Syria fighting terrorism," Muallem said at the UN General Assembly.
"Russian airstrikes, which began at the request of the Syrian government and in coordination with the government, are effectively supporting Syrian forces in the fight against terrorism," the minister stated.
