"I want to say that the Syrian issue was addressed. As for me, I can say and reveal a secret that…. together [with the French side] we showed that the Islamic State is definitely our enemy that we need to fight and, on the other hand, that the Syrian crisis needs a solution, which will reflect the interests of the oppositions," Merkel said following Normandy Four talks in Paris.
A military operation will not solve the crisis in Syria, a political process must be kick-started, Angela Merkel said.
"I don't think that some sort of a military action will put an end to the conflict, it is necessary to find a political solution," Merkel said following Normandy Four talks in Paris.
The Normandy Four talks on the Ukraine reconciliation concluded in Paris on Friday.
The meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko, French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel lasted for about five hours.
