TiSA Trade Agreement Threat to Democracy – Human Rights Watchdog
GENEVA (Sputnik) — The TiSA, negotiated by the United States, the European Union and a number of other states behind closed doors, aims to liberalize trade in services where possible and put control over trade fully in the hands of providers.

"Aviation is one of the industries that relies on the government's oversight. It is a key strategic tool for governments. We strongly believe that the aviation industry should not be put into a free trade environment. TiSA would undercut existing higher labor standards," Finke said on the sidelines of the WTO Public Forum.

The ITF opposes a system, whereby government would lose control over economic and social policy, she added.

"The TiSA agreement is fatally flawed, there is no transparency, there are no other [World Trade Organization] WTO members, like China [for example], there is no democracy there," Finke stressed.

The agreement has been widely criticized for bypassing the multilateral format provided by the WTO and national regulations, as well as for excluding some major trade players, such as the BRICS countries.
