MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier on Thursday, Chris Harper Mercer, a male shooter, opened fire at the Umpqua Community College in the city killing at least nine and injuring seven people. After an exchange of fire with police Harper died.
The hundreds of citizens of Roseburg, which has the population of about 22,000, gathered around 8 p.m. local time (04:00 GMT Friday) to pay tribute to the memory of the shooting victims, The Washington Post reported Thursday.
Speaking after the deadly incident, US President Barack Obama called on state governors and lawmakers to change US gun laws.
Obama also urged US news organizations to list side by side the numbers of Americans killed in terrorist attacks, and those killed in gun incidents.
