"Latest: 16 people killed — 9 MSF staff, 7 patients (3 children)," the statement reads.
Some 37 people were seriously wounded during the bombing, including 19 MSF personnel. The critically injured are being transferred to a nearby hospital in Puli Khumri.

According to the statement, the bombing continued for more than 30 minutes after American and Afghan military officials in Kabul and Washington were first informed of the incident.

NATO said in a statement that US forces conducted an airstrike in Kunduz at around the same time — just after 02:00 am on Saturday (after 22:00 GMT Sunday).
NATO has launched an investigation into the incident.
