The assumption that Russia is pursuing economic goals by conducting its operation in Syria is part of conspiracy theories and propaganda.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The assumption that Russia is pursuing economic goals by conducting its operation in Syria is part of conspiracy theories and propaganda, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said Saturday.

“We don’t have any global economic interests in Syria,” Medvedev said in an interview on the Rossiya 1 television channel.

According to Medvedev, Russia’s weapon deliveries to Syria amount to hundreds of millions of dollars while the country's total portfolio of order is estimated at some $15 billion, which makes Moscow’s profit from the operations in Syria comparatively insufficient.

“It's all conspiracy theories or propaganda, which, of course, is used in such situations by a number of other states," the prime minister said.
