During his speech at the 4th International Parliamentary Forum in Moscow, Zapatero said he is ready to do his best to help improve Russo-Belgian relations.
"A strong Europe suggests friendly relations with Russia," he said.
The forum focused on the issue of maintaining international security in the contemporary world and involved representatives from 43 countries.
According to president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE Ilkka Kanerva, tensions between Moscow and the West were aggravated after Crimea’s reunification with Russia.
The politician underscored that "nowadays dialogue is important as never before, and we should address other problems."
In his speech, Zapatero focused on the importance of renewing the global security system. According to him, the Ukrainian conflict can be resolved only via the Minsk peace agreements. Commenting on the Syrian crisis, he stressed that Russia’s involvement is crucial.
