“We don’t want to go back to the days when Russia and Israel were on adversarial positions, I think we have changed the relationship and it is, on the whole, good,” Netanyahu told CNN's Fareed Zakaria GPS.
He added that the military contacts between Russian and Israeli chiefs of staffs should “arrange deconfliction” as two states have “different goals” in Syria “that should not clash”.
In the last months, the Israeli Air Force have carried out a number of airstrikes in Syrian territory, in retaliation to rocket fire attributed to militants and against alleged Hezbollah weapon convoys.
Hezbollah, a paramilitary and political organization with roots in Lebanon's Shiite population, was established in the 1980s, and since that time has engaged in military opposition to Israel's occupation of Lebanon.
Hezbollah actively supports Syrian President Bashar Assad's forces against several opposition and radical Islamist militant groups, including the Islamic State.
