MEXICO (Sputnik) —Earlier, 102 people were reported dead. More than 300 people remain missing.
According to the rescuers, the hope for finding survivors under the wreckage of homes and land decreases every hour.

Guatemalan disaster agency (CONRED) head, Alejandro Maldonado, has stated that under the international standards, the greatest chances of finding survivors were in the first 72 hours, which have already passed, but the search will continue, as instructed by the country's president.

Dozens of homes in Santa Catarina Pinula were affected by the disaster, which occurred late on Thursday in a suburb located about 15 kilometers (about 9 miles) east of Guatemala City, the country’s capital.
Nearly 1,800 people are involved in search and rescue operations, including Red Cross workers, police officers and rescue teams.
