WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The United States continues to train, advise and assist Afghan forces as part of NATO’s Resolute Support Mission in the country amid the investigation into the alleged US airstrike on a hospital in Kunduz, Resolute Support Mission Commander Gen. John Campbell said Monday.
“I have not suspended train, advise, and assist support to the Afghans,” Campbell stated during a press conference.
On Saturday, the Kunduz hospital accommodating some 200 people was hit by a series of aerial bombing raids, which left at least 22 people dead, including 12 Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) staff.
US forces confirmed they conducted an airstrike in the vicinity of the hospital at the time of the bombing.
On Sunday, the Kunduz hospital halted its operations.
Washington and Kabul have launched a joint investigation into the bombing, while the MSF has called for an independent investigation into the attack.
