ENEVA (Sputnik) — According to a WHO statement, the conclusion has been made by the 7th meeting of Emergency Committee convened by the WHO Director-General regarding the Ebola virus disease (EVD) outbreak in West Africa.
"The Committee advised that the EVD outbreak continues to constitute a Public Health Emergency of International Concern," the statement said.
According to latest WHO data, a total of 11,311 people have died worldwide since the start of the outbreak in 2014. The WHO declared the outbreak a public health emergency of international concern on August 8, 2014.
This is the first Ebola outbreak to reach epidemic proportions.
