MOSCOW (Sputnik), Anastasia Levchenko — The US bombing of a Medicins Sans Frontiers (Doctors Without Borders, or MSF) hospital in Kunduz, Afghanistan is new evidence of the US army’s inability to bring peace and stability to the country, the executive director of the nonprofit Peace Action organization, Kevin Martin, told Sputnik on Tuesday.
"There is no justification for the bombing, and there must be an independent investigation. This tragedy shows once again the failure of US military intervention to bring peace and stability to Afghanistan. The US should cease all airstrikes in the country," Martin said.
The fact that the hospital was hit accidentally has been questioned by a number of media outlets, citing US sources and Afghanistan officials as saying that the attack was justified as members of the Taliban were supposedly present in the hospital.
MSF has strongly condemned the bombing, terming it a war crime and calling for an immediate investigation into the attack.
Earlier in the day, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called for an impartial investigation into the incident.
