Three police cruisers were burglarized on September 28, all at separate locations.
"I think it's more of a manifestation of this anti-police sentiment going around," Miami-Dade Police Benevolent Association Secretary Luis Fuste told WSVN.
The first, a marked Dodge Charger, has its trunk pried open and a rifle stolen.
The second, another charger, had its trunk also pried open, although police have not confirmed what was taken from this vehicle.
The third, a Ford Crown Victoria, had its passenger door opened and the burglars tore through the seat to gain access to the trunk of the vehicle, it has not been specified what was taken from this cruiser either.
Instead of assuming that maybe, the perpetrators were simply looking for guns, the police union immediately began blaming activists.
"There's this growing sentiment: Apparently, it's cool or admired or hip to be anti-police, and we're seeing that with these individuals coming out and breaking into these police cars," said Fuste.
The union rep is concerned that the burglaries will somehow embolden those scary activists who want to see an end to violence.
"They're emboldened by this anti-police sentiment, which is scary. It's scary for police officers, and it's scary for the rest of the community. There's no boundaries. If an individual is brazen enough, bold enough to break into a marked police car, I mean, there's just nothing that that person will not do to get what they want to get," said Fuste.
While the union was quick to comment, the department has not been quite so forthcoming. The PD has stated that they will not comment as the case is still under investigation.
