Kiev Hails DPR, LNR Postponement of Elections, Wants 2014 Results Cancelled

KIEV (Sputnik) – Kiev has welcomed a statement by the eastern Ukrainian self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk to postpone local elections until next year and believes the republics need to cancel the election results of November 2014 to return to a legal framework, a representative of Kiev’s negotiator in the trilateral Ukrainian reconciliation talks said Tuesday.

“The Ukrainian side welcomes the statement by the representatives of the individual regions of Donetsk and Lugansk on postponing elections [earlier slated for] October 18 and November 1,” Darka Olifer said on her Facebook page.

Kiev also insists that the two republics cancel the final results of local elections that were held on November 2, 2014 in order to return them into the legal frameworks of the country.

“In order for the individual regions of Donetsk and Lugansk to return to a legal framework, we draw your attention to the necessity of canceling the results of elections on November 2, 2014, when [the elections] were not recognized by the international community, Kiev, or Moscow for that matter,” Olifer wrote.
