BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — NATO has ignored Moscow's explanation to why a Russian military aircraft breached Turkey's airspace last week, Russia's envoy to the alliance Alexander Grushko said Tuesday.
On Monday, Turkish authorities said that a Russian military aircraft had violated the country’s airspace on October 3 from Syria. Moscow officially apologized for the incident, which, according to the Russian Defense Ministry, was caused by poor weather conditions.
"The fact that Russia's explanations were ignored shows the true intentions of the [North Atlantic] Council," Grushko said.
Now, this incident is being used for NATO to join the information campaign against Russia's operation in Syria, according to the diplomat.
"The impression is that the incident with Turkish airspace was used in order to enable NATO as an organization to join the information campaign conducted in the West, perverting and distorting the purpose of the Russian Air Force's operation in Syria," he stated.
