MOSCOW (Sputnik) The CEO of Russian energy company Gazprom, Alexei Miller, said Wednesday he hoped talks with Turkey over the Turkish Stream gas pipeline will advance to the substantive phase in the near future.

"We hope that negotiations on the intergovernmental agreement on the Turkish Stream’s construction across the Black Sea will advance to a substantive phase in the near future," Miller told the Rossiya-24 broadcaster.

The Gazprom chief said a draft intergovernmental agreement, envisioning the construction of a first thread and negotiations over a second, have been prepared.

Miller suggested that it is not necessary for his company to go beyond a capacity of 32 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year for the two pipelines.

The Turkish Stream pipeline is proposed to have an annual capacity of 63 billion cubic meters and a hub on the Turkish-Greek border that could be extended to southern Europe.

Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said over the weekend the two countries were expected to sign an intergovernmental agreement not earlier than December.
