"We don’t have any conflict of interests with Russia over Syria, but Russia must take into consideration our concern over the situation. We are friends and neighbors with Russia, but Turkey cannot ignore security issues of our borders," Davutoglu told journalists, adding that the Syrian civil war will not become a Russian-Turkish crisis.
NATO claimed that Russian fighter jets violated Turkish airspace on October 3 and October 4. The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that on October 3, an Su-30 Flanker multirole fighter briefly entered Turkish airspace for a few seconds due to poor weather conditions. There has been no official statement by Russia regarding the accusations of an October 4 incident.
Davutoglu told journalists on Monday that the incident of a Russian jet crossing Turkish airspace has not damaged relations between the countries.
