MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Russian Defense Ministry is willing to put into action the Pentagon proposals on cooperation on fight against the Islamic State (ISIL) extremists, a spokesman for the ministry said Wednesday.
"The Russian Defense Ministry responded to the request of the Pentagon and promptly considered the US proposals on the coordination of actions in the fight against the ISIL terrorist group in Syria. In general, these proposals can be adopted for implementation," Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said.
Russian and US military experts will discuss technical details of the proposals later on Wednesday, according to Konashenkov.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, its airstrikes have already done considerable damage to IS' command and logistics networks, as well as to the infrastructure needed to equip suicide bombers.
The US-led international coalition against ISIL has conducted airstrikes in Syria since September 2014, without the approval of the UN Security Council or the Syrian government.
On Tuesday, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said that Moscow was ready to use information obtained by the US-led coalition to combat ISIL, and called on coalition members to exchange reconnaissance on the militant group.
