MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The European Commission has admitted to UKIP member of European Parliament Patrick O'Flynn that it had decided to create a Task Force for strategic issues aimed at coordinating the United Kingdom’s referendum, raising concerns that Brussels intends to push UK citizens to stay in the bloc, UKIP said Wednesday.
According to O’Flynn, British citizens don’t like anything that "smacks of interference with fair play."
O'Flynn responded to European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker's written statement to him, which said that the Task Force would coordinate the body's work on all strategic issues concerning the situation in the United Kingdom before the scheduled referendum.
Earlier this year, British Prime Minister David Cameron promised to hold a referendum on Britain’s membership in the European Union by the end of 2017.
