MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The number of migrants headed for the European Union in 2015, most of whom are from Afghanistan, may reach as high as one million, Russian General Staff chief Gen. Valery Gerasimov said Thursday.
“The European Union has made the decision to disperse 150,000 migrants throughout European states. But the actual flow of refugees is much larger. According to some statistics, up to one million people may look for refuge in the continent’s countries this year, and many of them are from Afghanistan,” Gerasimov said during an international conference on Afghanistan.
Gerasimov said that upward to 8,000 individuals ask the Afghan government to issue travel passports on a daily basis.
