"As for Russia's actions in Syria, these actions are intended to contribute to preserving the territorial and political integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, thereby contributing to stability and security in the region, which, in turn, borders the Republic of Turkey. In this regard, Russia, of course, contributes to more stability and more security near Turkey's borders," Peskov told reporters.
Also Peskov stated that the long-term operations by the US-led coalition in Syria has not led to the weakening of the Islamic State, but on the contrary allowed the ISIL to expand its territory, which has destabilized the situation in the region.
“It should be remembered that before the operation by the Russian Armed Forces to support the Syrian Army, the coalition, consisting of several countries headed by the United States, over a long period of time, more than a year, carried out strikes against positions that were qualified as ISIL positions. But instead of decreasing the territory that was under the control of this and other terrorist organizations, quite the opposite happened over the last year and the territory has increased multifold, which has destabilized the situation in Syria itself, as well as threatening the Republic of Turkey,” Peskov said.
