NEW YORK (Sputnik) — The US authorities seized six pounds of cocaine in four separate bags of candy with a street value of $100,000, and charged Manjarrez with the importation of a controlled substance, the CBP added.
"Mr. Eusebio Jimenez Manjarrez… arrived on a flight from Mexico City, Mexico and presented himself to CBP officers for inspection," the statement read. "During the examination of his baggage, CBP officers removed a bag of candy and found an object wrapped in tape… revealing a white powder."
The rate of annual drug smugglings rose nearly 20 percent between 2008 and 2011 at the New York Airport, according to a 2012 report by Capital New York.
