BERLIN (Sputnik) — Speaking to the Funke Media Group, de Maiziere said foreign intelligence agencies repeatedly warn the German government that "terrorists are mixing with refugees."
"We are taking all these notifications seriously and acting on them. But none of them has been confirmed so far," the home minister asserted in an interview to local newspapers.
De Maiziere warned that Germany was "at the center of international terrorism," adding home security services worked hard to thwart terror plots.
The minister pointed to the rise of an anti-migrant backlash in the country, with almost 500 documented criminal offenses perpetrated against refugee shelters in the country in 2015.
Germany has taken in some 600,000 asylum seekers since the start of the year, with an estimated 10,000 refugees crossing into the country every day, according to the Foreign Ministry.
