“Russia is a prime example of how a country, proud of its independence, should act,” the Milan-based daily newspaper Il Giornale quoted Berlusconi as saying.
Berlusconi said that Russia was acting as a country that “wants to preserve its unique identity in the world, while sticking to its primary role.”
He underscored the need for the West to cooperate with Moscow in the ongoing war against the Islamic State terrorist group. The ex-Premier also said that such cooperation would not harm Italy’s “main ally” — the United States.
Coordinated action by all the main global actors – America, Russia, Europe and China — is the only means of crushing the Islamic State terrorists, the ex-PM noted.
“I don’t think that isolated adventures will be conducive to resolving the situation ISIL created in Iraq and the neighboring countries,” Silvio Berlusconi said.
