MANAMA (Sputnik) – The head of the Gulf Kingdom of Bahrain’s capital governorate is leading a state and business delegation to the Russian city of St. Petersburg, the governor’s spokesman said Sunday.
"This visit is aimed at implementing a memorandum of cooperation signed in 2014 between the two cities to strengthen trade, economic, scientific, technical, cultural and sports relations," Sheikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa’s spokesman told RIA Novosti.
Bahrain’s 40-member delegation represents 22 state enterprises along with its biggest private companies, according to the spokesman.
He highlighted the significance of the governor’s visit on the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Russia’s diplomatic relations with Bahrain.
The delegates are expected to hold talks with GazpromNeft on prospects of oil cooperation, meet medical and pharmaceutical industry representatives, and take part in a roundtable and business forum with university leaders in St. Petersburg.
The Bahraini team is also expected to visit the city’s famed passenger port known as the Morskoy Vokzal (Sea Station) and Pulkovo Airport, as well as hear a lecture on tourism and the hospitality industry in St. Petersburg.
The Bahraini delegation’s visit to St. Petersburg is set to conclude on Thursday, October 15.
