“Just recently a member of the German embassy staff in Moscow was captured on camera, inciting a group of Russian oppositionists to defy the Kremlin,” Freie Welt wrote.
Berlin’s anti-Russian position on the Ukrainian conflict has also added to the Russians’ attitude towards a country they admired so much only a few years ago, the newspaper added.
“As recently as in 2011 the Russians named Germany their third most valued partner in the word after Kazakhstan and Belarus. Nowadays they have almost as little respect for us as they do for Ukraine,” the German paper noted.
“The Russians hoped that Germany would act as an umpire in the Ukrainian conflict, that’s exactly why they feel so much disappointed now blaming [German Chancellor] Angela Merkel and the United States for all this,” Freie Welt wrote in conclusion.
