DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — A Syrian military source said on Monday that over 3,000 militants had left Syria through the border with Jordan for less than a week of the Russian military operation.
"At least 250 terrorists, who fought with IS [ISIL] in Syria, fled to Libya after the beginning of Russia's air force operation in the SAR [Syrian Arab Republic]," Horchani said as quoted by the Syrian SANA news agency.
According to Tunisian official estimates, several thousands of the country's citizens fight alongside various terrorist groups in Syria. Dozens of them have been arrested and hundreds were killed in hostilities.
Russian Aerospace Forces commenced precision airstrikes against terrorist targets in Syria on September 30, following a request from President Bashar Assad.
Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry said panic was sweeping ISIL militants amid airstrikes.
