MINSK (Sputnik) — The Belarusian president added that the Western countries noted a democratic approach to his election campaign, but it was unclear how they would present it.
"We did everything so that no one would reproach us, especially our Western partners and observers. What else have we not done yet so the West would finally see some elements of democracy in Belarus?" Lukashenko said during his meeting with Executive Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States Sergei Lebedev on Monday.
There were several attempts to sabotage the presidential election and destabilize the situation in the country, which were "quietly and peacefully" prevented, according to Lukashenko.
According to preliminary results from Sunday’s presidential election, Lukashenko won 83.5 percent of the popular vote, giving him a landslide victory for his fifth term in office.
