ATHENS (Sputnik) – Greek journalists will hold a five-hour strike Tuesday in opposition to the government’s decision to make changes in the social insurance sector that will affect journalists’ pensions, as was announced by the Union of Athens Daily Press Editors (ESIEA).
“The political choice of the government and the lawlessness of employers in the media with layoffs, staff reductions, unpaid and uninsured work maintain a specific plan to fully undermine insurance and labor rights,” ESIEA said in a Monday statement, announcing the strike.
All media, portal, and public organization journalists will stop working from 11 a.m. till 4 p.m. local time in order to assert their rights and to participate in a general meeting, according to the statement.
ESIEA calls on all journalists to take part in the meeting and to speak out against the government’s decision.
