MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation (UIMC), a part of the Rostec state technologies corporation, designed a color scanner and a thermal printer that function in extreme conditions and even upside down.
"This equipment can work steadily at temperatures between —40 and +50 Celsius and humidity as high as 95 percent, while thermal printing ensures high quality of texts and images printed in frosty weather with minimum material consumption," UIMC Innovative Development Department Director Alexander Kalinin told RIA Novosti.
Kalinin stated that UIMC-made office equipment provides best results when working in the open air, on wheeled or tracked vehicles, at sea and in combat.
Two years ago, Russia unveiled a strategy to boost its presence in the Arctic, an area believed to hold huge oil and natural gas reserves. Russia has been identifying deposits within its offshore border areas, as have the United States, Canada, Norway and Denmark.
