MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Over 5,000 police officers gathered in front of France’s Justice Ministry in Paris on Wednesday to protest a lack of resources, rising violence and an ineffective justice system in the country, The Local newspaper reported.
The demonstrations were prompted after an officer was seriously injured on October 6. The officer was shot in the head by a reportedly radicalized escaped inmate, who did not return to prison after a temporary leave.
"The police, heroes in January [at the time of a terror attack on the Charlie Hebdo magazine], have been forgotten," Jean-Claude Delage of the police union Alliance said, as cited by the media.
