WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Local authorities in some regions of Ukraine have been treating small religious groups unevenly, US State Department said on Wednesday in its International Religious Freedom Report for 2014.
“In certain regions of the country, smaller religious groups continued to report unequal treatment by local authorities,” the report read.
The State Department said Roman Catholics, Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and Muslims have experienced unequal treatment in the central and southern regions of Ukraine.
In addition, prior to Crimea’s reunification with Russia, Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate complained about the municipal governments’ refusal to provide a place for church construction.
The State Department publishes International Religious Freedom Report annually detailing the status of religious freedom in every country in accordance with the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998.
